I have always thought that I know how to appreciate things, but now I have learned that the "true appreciation" is beyond just saying "thank you".

About 1 month ago, I was invited by a friend to attend an experience sharing of a well respected leader and sales person of a world well-known direct sale organization. More than thousand people gathered to hear what a 60 years old retired grade 2 teacher have to share about her secrete to success.

Often in life, we have always wish to meet the "special person" or "VIP", and hoping that person can suddenly change our life by bringing new opportunity and fortune. For example, we have always hope that we will have a better mentor in the company or a better client who can support us to meet our year end sales target. So now the question is where to find or what's the steps to find these VIP?

What's most stunning that I learn is that there is no secrete, but simple principle that everyone can adopt and adjust their attitude toward life. Now we simply need to do 2 things that relates to the principle of "true appreciation".

The guidelines are simply:

The anticipation of welcoming our second born is growing day by day! The clock is ticking as "Ethan Kuo" may just arrived any day.

My wife and I are checking through our to-do list while hoping that we would be more prepared than ever compared to our 1st born.

While with the excitement, there is also a slightly concerned of having a prematured baby as Ethan may arrive 1 month ahead.

Luckily, we have already begun the preparation from the mother after birth caring center to birthday cake and sticky rice. Right now the only thing that we can do is hoping that Ethan can wait a bit more to "catch up" the weight. As the doctor said that gaining over 2500-2600 gram would be a "safe" weight, and we are doing everything that we can to help the baby to grow.

We are fortunate that we have received lots support from friends from Facebook and phone call about the tips to grow the baby. I just want to say thank you for all the care ;)

Does the learning attitude or ability of our youth affect Taiwan's future?

What is going on may we ask with the recent news about the "learning attitude" of our university students in Taiwan? Articles belows from Yahoo illustrates the incidents about students "falling sleep" / "listening to MP3" during class and important speech following by comments from minister of our minster of Education quoting that "我們專業能力不差,但在工作敬業態度方面,我們比較自由開放,就會先想到自己的利益。"?

Should we pull an alarm over this matter?Being a father of a child of 5 years old daughter, I do put lots emphasis on explaining and training the importance of a "positive", "proactive", "persistent" learning attitude. Although my wife and I don't have the BEST ANSWERS to life, but both of us believe that the key to success is not so much on whether if you are REALLY SMART or whether if you can learn FASTER or achieve it for the FIRST TIME, the key is rather a positive learning attitude

There is no right or wrong answer as humans have not yet find the definite formula to SUCCESS. We are here just sharing our concern and view on how we would raise our child. We are not here trying to changethe environment or education system, but would make our best effort to illustrate the facts, and let our kids be aware of the situation. Ultimately, she would need to make a decision for her own life. At the end of days, let's hope that we are concerned for the right reason.

The book "”Seven + One” Habits at Work", by Dr Covey, would be one of the MUST read book for professional like busy project manager who are trying to balance priorities and urgencies in life.

I must say that it is quite a challenge to follow through all the great concepts illustrated in the book! (e.g. dealing with "not urgent, but important" issue first instead of occupying oneself in "urgent, not important" and "not urgent, not important" things (e.g. watch TV all night long until 3 AM).

Today, I found a great PowerPoint slide that illustrates the key concepts of the book! If you enjoy the concepts by Dr. Covey, I would encourage everyone to go pick up this great book! (i.e either audio or hard copy).

Hope that the ideas are compelling to you as it would to me!! Recently, I have been re-picking up this book since I first read 15 years ago!! Enjoy!!

do we all really know what our priorities are?

as we are reaching end of year 2009, I am am re-picking up a book that has been inspiring me since I was a teenager, with hope that it can help me to plan my 2010 year. The "First Things First" by Stephen Covey conveys a simple message is that are we doing things that align to our goals and vision. Are we busy for the right thing.

Yahhhhhhhh...  I got to say that it is not easy to do that. We may often responding to "urgent not important" (e.g. meeting other people's needs, doing fire fighting) and "not important and not urgent" matter (e.g. watching TV 2am for 2 hours every night).

good life goal setting requires identifying dream, goal setting and being discipline to follow through. One powerful story that one of my best friend Edward told me several times to illustrate the power of goal setting. The story goes:

 Any formula to quick success?

lots people have been trying to search for the "express formula of success"! I would not lie if I am not one of them.  However, After years of searching, I would imagine that success comes with doing things the "smart way" with a bit of luck, rather than searching for the "quick or back door" to success.

so how can we be "smart" and find "luck" assuming that my definition of the formula of success is correct?

(1) First, I would say that "doing things the smart way" comes with the process of "trial & error", which would translate into "experience". One would only know the "correct way" after experiencing the "not correct way".
